Ninh Binh, 12 May 2026 – Forward Nguyen Xuan Son has said that Nam Dinh FC will fight for Vietnamese fans in the second leg of the ASEAN Club Championship semi-final against Selangor FC.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference on May 12, Xuan Son expressed confidence and determination ahead of the crucial clash at Thien Truong Stadium.
Nam Dinh head into the return leg facing a difficult challenge after suffering a 1-2 defeat away from home in the first leg. To book a place in the final, the V.League 1 representatives must win by at least two goals. A one-goal victory would force the match into extra time, while a draw or defeat would end their campaign.
“Honestly, I’m very excited for tomorrow’s match,” Xuan Son said. “The whole team has prepared very well and everyone is ready. We will do everything possible to win because this is our gift to the fans. For us, this game feels like a final, not just a semi-final.”
The striker also praised the passionate support from Nam Dinh supporters, describing the atmosphere at Thien Truong as a major source of motivation for the squad.
“The fans here always create incredible energy for us. We want to give everything on the pitch and deliver a victory,” he added.
Xuan Son emphasized that the team is not only representing Nam Dinh, but also Vietnamese football as a whole.
“It’s not just about playing for Nam Dinh. My teammates and I are representing Vietnamese football, and we will fight for all Vietnamese fans in this match.”
Meanwhile, head coach Vu Hong Viet remains optimistic about his side’s chances of overturning the deficit at home.
“A one-goal difference is not too big,” the coach said. “We will give everything we have to achieve the result needed to reach the final.”
Vu Hong Viet also revealed that the team had carefully reviewed mistakes from the first leg, especially their inability to convert scoring opportunities.
“We created many chances but failed to finish them. The players have worked hard in training to improve that aspect, and I believe we will perform better in the second leg,” he explained.
The decisive semi-final between Nam Dinh and Selangor will kick off at 5:30 PM on May 13.
