Coach Park Hang-seo makes surprise move to Thai League 2

Thailand, 25 May 2026 – After a lengthy negotiation process, Park Hang-seo has officially agreed to become the new head coach of Kanchanaburi FC in Thai League 2.

The Thai club announced the appointment on May 25, although the contract signing reportedly took place several days earlier. Park Hang-seo has signed a two-year deal with the club, though salary details were not disclosed. His main objective will be to guide Kanchanaburi back to Thai League 1.

However, due to his current duties with the South Korean national team at the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Mexico, Park — who is currently serving as Vice President of the Korea Football Association — will only officially take charge at the end of July. Until then, assistant coach Lee Jung Soo will oversee the team on an interim basis.

According to Tuoi Tre Online, Park Hang-seo had been considering a return to coaching for nearly a year. He reportedly spent several months discussing and evaluating the opportunity at Kanchanaburi before making his final decision. When leaving the Vietnam national team in 2023, Park previously stated that he would not coach another Southeast Asian national team.

Kanchanaburi’s strong financial backing is believed to have played a major role in reigniting the Korean coach’s passion for management.

“Although I received offers from several countries, including Vietnam, the reason I chose Thailand is very clear. This is a path where nobody has truly succeeded before,” Park explained.

He added: “The long-term vision and sincere football ambition shown by Kanchanaburi awakened my desire for a new challenge. With a strong sense of responsibility representing Korean football, I will give my best as a coach working in Thailand, Vietnam, and Southeast Asia.”

Despite taking the new role in Thailand, Park Hang-seo remains under contract as a senior advisor for Bac Ninh FC.
