Vietnam defeat China to win women’s beach handball gold at the 2026 Asian Beach Games

China, 17 June 2026 – Vietnam women’s beach handball team captured the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Beach Games after defeating hosts China in a thrilling final on April 30.

Playing in front of a home crowd, China faced a determined Vietnamese side that started strongly and edged the opening set 20-18. Vietnam’s players displayed excellent teamwork and composure under pressure, taking an early advantage in the championship match.

China responded impressively in the second set, regaining momentum through a series of well-executed attacking combinations. The hosts narrowly claimed the set 21-20, leveling the contest and forcing the final into a decisive shootout.

With the gold medal on the line, Vietnam remained calm during the tiebreak. The team delivered a clinical performance in the shootout, defeating China 9-6 to seal a 2-1 overall victory and secure the championship title.

The triumph earned Vietnam the women’s beach handball gold medal and also provided the country with its final gold medal of the 2026 Asian Beach Games.

The victory carried added significance, as Vietnam had previously defeated China in the final to win the women’s beach handball title at the 2016 Asian Beach Games held in Da Nang. A decade later, history repeated itself with another memorable triumph over the same opponent.

Meanwhile, Thailand claimed the bronze medal in the women’s beach handball competition.
