Vietnam women’s beach handball team gear up for World Championship

Hanoi, 18 June 2026 – Vietnam will once again be represented on the world stage by its women’s beach handball team, which has secured qualification for the 2026 IHF Beach Handball World Championship.

According to the tournament schedule, Vietnam will begin its campaign against reigning world champions Germany on June 23, the opening day of the competition. The match is scheduled to take place at 12:00 PM local time.

Vietnam enters the tournament as the reigning Asian champion, setting up a highly anticipated clash against one of the strongest teams in world beach handball. Later that same day, the Vietnamese side will face the Netherlands before taking on Uruguay on the morning of June 24.

A total of 16 teams have qualified for the women’s tournament, including Norway, Greece, Brazil, the United States, Argentina, Denmark, the Philippines, Benin, Germany, the Netherlands, Vietnam, Uruguay, Spain, the Cook Islands, Puerto Rico, and host nation Croatia.

Following the official draw, Vietnam was placed in Group A alongside Germany, the Netherlands, and Uruguay. Group B features Spain, Croatia, the Cook Islands, and Puerto Rico. Group C consists of Norway, Greece, Brazil, and the United States, while Group D includes Argentina, Denmark, the Philippines, and Benin.

Under the competition format, teams will play a round-robin schedule in the preliminary stage. The top three teams from each group will advance to the second group phase, where two groups of six teams will be formed. The top four teams from each second-round group will then qualify for the quarter-finals before progressing through the knockout rounds toward the semi-finals and final.

The 2026 edition marks the fifth consecutive Beach Handball World Championship appearance for Vietnam’s women’s national team, underlining the country’s growing status in the sport. At the previous World Championship in 2024, Vietnam finished in an impressive ninth place overall.

Head coach Huynh Minh Ngon and his coaching staff are currently overseeing the team’s preparations in Mui Ne as they fine-tune tactics and fitness ahead of the tournament. The 16-player training squad includes Nguyen Thi Nhung, Nguyen Thi Tra My, Pham Thi My Hang, Tran Thi Hong Ngoc, Saly Ha, Nguyen Thi Thuy Dung, Lu Ngoc Trinh, Thach Thi Bich Thuan, Hua Ai My, Nguyen Nhu Hoang Yen, Vo Be Tu, Ha Thi Hanh, Dam Thi Thanh Huyen, Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyet, Tran Hai Yen, and Pham Thi Loan.
