South Korea, 8 Julyy 2026 – Continuing their series of friendly matches in preparation for the ASEAN Cup 2026, Vietnam national team produced another encouraging performance on the afternoon of July 8, defeating Yongin FC 2-1 in a hard-fought encounter.
From the opening whistle, despite facing physically stronger opponents, head coach Kim Sang-sik’s side remained composed and stayed true to their possession-based approach. Their breakthrough came in the 32nd minute when, after a slick passing move outside the penalty area, midfielder Nguyen Hai Long unleashed a stunning long-range strike into the top corner to give Vietnam a 1-0 lead. It was Hai Long’s second goal of the training camp, further highlighting his outstanding form.
Yongin FC responded strongly after the break and leveled the score in the 58th minute with a swift counterattack. However, the “Golden Star Warriors” quickly regained control. In the 74th minute, striker Nguyen Xuan Son met a pinpoint cross from the right flank with a powerful header, restoring Vietnam’s lead at 2-1. The Vietnamese defense then stood firm during the closing stages, absorbing sustained pressure to preserve the victory.
The 2-1 triumph not only extends head coach Kim Sang-sik’s winning run on South Korean soil but also provides another confidence boost ahead of the ASEAN Cup 2026. Xuan Son’s first goal of the training camp and Hai Long’s continued goalscoring form are particularly encouraging signs as Vietnam builds momentum for its bid to reclaim the Southeast Asian title later this month.
