Coach Jorn Andersen admits Vietnam were a class above after Myanmar’s defeat

Thai Nguyen, 18 July 2026 – Myanmar head coach Jorn Andersen admitted that Vietnam were clearly the superior side and fully deserved their victory following his team’s 4-0 defeat.

“Vietnam played a very good match and deserved to win. The difference in quality between the two teams was quite clear,” the Norwegian coach said. “It was a very difficult game for Myanmar, and we conceded goals from situations that we should have dealt with better. We have a lot to learn from this match and will work hard to improve.”

Looking ahead, Andersen stressed that his focus is now on continuing to develop the team as Myanmar prepare for the ASEAN Cup 2026.

“I will try to help the players improve with every match so that Myanmar can achieve better results at the ASEAN Cup,” he said. “We need to continue developing both technically and in terms of our mentality on the pitch.”

Assessing Vietnam’s strength, Andersen was particularly impressed by the quality of their attacking options, highlighting the impact of the team’s naturalized players.

“Vietnam have three very high-quality naturalized players in attack, and they made a significant difference in this match,” Andersen explained. “Facing players of this level is also a valuable learning experience for the Myanmar players. It gives them an opportunity to gain experience and continue their development.”

Despite the heavy defeat, Andersen views the friendly as an important test for his squad as Myanmar continue their preparations for the ASEAN Cup 2026.
