Hanoi, 7 August 2026 – Vietnam women’s international Tran Thi Duyen has successfully undergone surgery after suffering a serious knee injury, with the influential midfielder expected to spend between six and nine months on the sidelines before returning to competitive football.
The operation was performed earlier this week at 108 Military Central Hospital and was declared a success. Duyen will now begin an intensive rehabilitation program as she works toward making her comeback.
The injury occurred during Phong Phu Ha Nam’s return-leg match against Thai Nguyen T&T in the 2026 Vietnam Women’s National Championship – Thai Son Bac Cup. Following medical examinations and detailed scans, doctors confirmed that the 25-year-old had ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee, one of the most serious injuries a footballer can suffer.
According to the medical team overseeing her recovery, Duyen is expected to require six to nine months of rehabilitation before she can resume full training and return to competitive action.
On August 7, representatives from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) visited the midfielder at the hospital to offer their support following the successful surgery.
VFF Deputy General Secretary Nguyen Thanh Ha, accompanied by officials from the federation’s Sports Medicine Department, met with Duyen to check on her condition and encourage her throughout the recovery process.
“Stay positive, follow the treatment and rehabilitation plan carefully, and we hope to see you back on the pitch as soon as possible.”
The injury is a significant setback for both club and country. Duyen has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2026 Vietnam Women’s National Championship and will also miss Vietnam’s upcoming training camp for Asian Games 2026 (ASIAD 20) preparations.
Widely regarded as one of Vietnam’s key midfielders, Duyen’s absence will be keenly felt as the national team prepares for one of its biggest international competitions of the year. While the road to recovery is expected to be long, the successful operation marks an important first step toward her return to the field.
