Park Hang-seo confronts Pattaya United fans after heated Thai League 2 draw

Thailand, 2 Nov 2026 – Former Vietnam national team head coach Park Hang-seo was involved in a heated confrontation with Pattaya United supporters after his Kanchanaburi FC side drew 2-2 away from home in Round 9 of Thai League 2 on November 1.

Tensions erupted following the final whistle when a group of Pattaya United supporters allegedly directed offensive gestures and provocative chants towards the South Korean coach.

According to reports, the supporters repeatedly shouted “kimchi”, referring to the traditional Korean dish, in an apparent attempt to mock Park’s nationality.

The incident visibly angered the former Vietnam coach, who confronted the supporters after becoming frustrated by their behaviour.

The same group reportedly targeted Kanchanaburi FC players and coaching staff with further offensive gestures, escalating tensions between the two sides.

Park and several members of the Kanchanaburi delegation reacted strongly, prompting security personnel and Pattaya United players to intervene before the confrontation could escalate.

The incident overshadowed an entertaining encounter in which Kanchanaburi FC twice took the lead but failed to secure all three points.

Playing away from home, Park’s side showed attacking determination and appeared capable of claiming an important victory. However, Pattaya United fought back on both occasions to earn a 2-2 draw.

The result left Kanchanaburi FC in sixth place in the Thai League 2 standings with 14 points after nine rounds.

Despite dropping points, Park’s team remain firmly in contention for promotion, sitting just three points behind the second-placed side.

The narrow gap in the standings means Kanchanaburi FC still have an opportunity to move into the leading positions if they can turn competitive performances into victories.

For Park, the incident represents an unpleasant moment during his time in Thai football.

The South Korean tactician remains a familiar figure to Vietnamese supporters following his successful tenure with Vietnam’s national teams, during which he helped the country achieve several historic results in regional and continental competitions.

His immediate focus will now return to Kanchanaburi FC’s promotion campaign as the club looks to build momentum in the coming rounds.

Although the 2-2 draw kept Kanchanaburi FC within reach of the promotion places, the post-match confrontation has drawn attention away from the football and raised concerns about supporter conduct in Thai League 2.
