What scenarios could help Vietnam qualify for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 quarterfinals?

Thailand, 8 April 2026 – Vietnam U20 women’s team secured a 1-0 victory over Bangladesh in their final group-stage match. This win helped coach Okiyama Masahiko and his players finish third in Group A, keeping their hopes alive of qualifying for the quarterfinals.

According to AFC regulations, in addition to the top two teams from Groups A, B, and C, the two best third-placed teams will also advance to the quarterfinals. Therefore, Vietnam must wait for the final results from Groups B and C to determine whether they can progress.

At present, Vietnam have 3 points with a goal difference of -5. Meanwhile, the potential third-placed teams in Groups B and C all have inferior goal differences: Uzbekistan (-8) and Jordan (-9) in Group B, and Chinese Taipei (-7) and India (-11) in Group C.

In the final round of matches, Uzbekistan will face Jordan, while Chinese Taipei will take on India. If either match ends in a draw, Vietnam will officially secure a place in the quarterfinals. If Uzbekistan defeat Jordan by fewer than three goals, or if Chinese Taipei beat India by fewer than four goals, Vietnam will also qualify.

Vietnam will only be eliminated if both of the following scenarios occur simultaneously: Uzbekistan defeat Jordan by three goals (or Jordan beat Uzbekistan by four goals), and Chinese Taipei defeat India by four goals (or India beat Jordan by seven goals).

Overall, Vietnam’s chances of reaching the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup remain very high. The final outcome will be confirmed at 22:00 on April 8 after the last matches of Groups B and C conclude.
