Van Hau signs contract extension as his wife steals spotlight

Hanoi, 16 April 2026 – Doan Hai My accompanied Doan Van Hau at his new contract signing ceremony with Hanoi Police FC this morning.

Van Hau appeared in a white shirt with a tuxedo jacket, while Hai My wore a light-colored long dress with simple accessories. He drove them to the club headquarters in Hanoi and courteously opened the door for his wife upon arrival.

Hai My, 25, was a Top 10 finalist at the Miss Vietnam 2020 pageant. She married Van Hau in late 2023, and the couple now have a son. She often accompanies him at major events and is also known for coordinating their outfits.

Van Hau has extended his contract with Hanoi Police FC until the end of the 2028–2029 season. He expressed gratitude to the club for supporting him during his long injury layoff, which allowed him to return to action. “I clearly see the club’s ambitions and determination in the coming years, especially in pursuing international titles. That’s why I want to continue this journey with the club,” he said.

The Thai Binh-born (now Hung Yen) defender joined Hanoi Police FC in 2023 and played a role in their V.League 1 title-winning campaign. However, he suffered an Achilles tendon injury in September 2023, which turned out to be more serious than initially expected. He underwent multiple surgeries in Singapore before making his official return on December 3, 2025, in a 1–1 draw against Buriram United in the ASEAN Club Championship 2025–2026.

Born in 1999, Van Hau came through the Hanoi FC academy. He was part of the Vietnam U19 team that reached the semi-finals of the 2016 AFC U19 Championship, securing qualification for the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup. Under coach Park Hang-seo, he became a key figure in Vietnam’s runner-up finish at the 2018 AFC U23 Championship, a fourth-place finish at the Asian Games, and the AFF Cup 2018 title (now ASEAN Cup).

After winning multiple domestic titles with Hanoi FC, Van Hau had a stint abroad with SC Heerenveen during the 2019–2020 season before returning to Vietnam and later joining Hanoi Police FC in 2023.

Alongside Van Hau, the club has also extended contracts with Tran Dinh Trong, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, and Le Pham Thanh Long until June 2029, while Brazilian forward Alan Sebastiao has signed a deal through the 2027–2028 season. Other key players such as Nguyen Quang Hai and Nguyen Dinh Bac remain under contract until 2026–2027, while Phan Van Duc and Cao Pendant Quang Vinh are tied down until 2027–2028. Goalkeeper Nguyen Filip is currently the most notable player whose contract is set to expire at the end of this season.
