Anh Vien wins international swimming title in Maldives

Maldives, 15 April 2026 – Former swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won the 10km event at the. Oceanman Maldives 2026.

At the Oceanman Maldives event, held from April 10–11, Anh Vien competed in the 10km, 2km, and team relay categories. In the 10km race, she delivered an outstanding performance, finishing first with a time of 2 hours 30 minutes 22 seconds—matching the top male swimmer.

“This was my first time swimming 10km in the sea, an unforgettable experience,” she shared on her personal page. “The Maldives sea is still beautifully blue, but today’s 10km journey was not an easy challenge. I gave it everything and reached the finish line with all I had.”

At 30 years old, Anh Vien is regarded as a Vietnamese swimming legend and the most successful swimmer in the country’s history. She has won 25 SEA Games gold medals, along with one Asian silver and one bronze, two Asian Games bronze medals, a Youth Olympic gold medal, a Military World Games gold medal, and a World Cup silver medal. She also dominated domestic competitions for years, collecting numerous national titles and records.

After returning from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, she retired from the national team. Since then, Anh Vien has focused on teaching swimming to children while also participating in relay swimming events and running races. She previously competed in the DNSE Aquaman Vietnam 2024 duathlon event as well.
