Japan, 17 June 2026 – The organizers of the 20th Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya 2026) have officially released the competition schedule for all 43 sports to the National Olympic Committees across Asia.
On June 16, the Organizing Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia unveiled the full competition timetable for the continent’s biggest multi-sport event.
The 20th Asian Games will feature 43 official sports and 71 disciplines, comprising a total of 469 medal events. While the initial program included 41 sports, two additional disciplines — padel and teqball — were approved and added in March 2026, bringing the final number to 43.
The Games will officially take place from September 19 to October 4 in Nagoya and Aichi Prefecture, with the Opening Ceremony scheduled for September 19. However, competition will begin well before the official opening, with the first events starting on September 10.
Baseball will be the earliest sport to get underway, launching the competition schedule nine days before the Opening Ceremony. Other sports beginning before the official start of the Games include modern pentathlon, volleyball, football, soft tennis, hockey, and cricket.
The 43-sport program covers a wide range of disciplines, including aquatics (swimming, diving, artistic swimming and water polo), archery, athletics, badminton, baseball/softball, basketball, boxing, breaking, canoeing, combat sports (ju-jitsu, kurash and MMA), cycling, equestrian, esports, fencing, football, golf, gymnastics, hockey, kabaddi, karate, modern pentathlon, rowing, rugby, sailing, sepak takraw, shooting, skateboarding, sport climbing, squash, surfing, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, teqball, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.
The announcement comes as organizers officially marked the 100-day countdown to the Games. Japan is expected to welcome approximately 15,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries and territories, making Aichi-Nagoya 2026 one of the largest editions of the Asian Games in history.
Meanwhile, the Asian Games torch relay is scheduled to take place across Japan from August 22 to September 18. The torch will travel through numerous host locations and communities before arriving in Nagoya for the Opening Ceremony, accompanied by athletes, officials and local supporters as excitement builds toward Asia’s premier sporting event.
