Vietnam strike relay gold twice at 2026 Asian Championships and sets historic record

Gumi, 21 June 2026 – Vietnam’s relay teams delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Asian Athletics Relay Championships, capturing two gold medals and reinforcing their status as one of Asia’s emerging track and field powers.

In the women’s 4x400m relay final on June 21, the quartet of Quach Thi Lan, Nguyen Thi Hang, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh, and Nguyen Thi Ngoc produced a superb display to defeat several strong regional rivals. The Vietnamese team crossed the finish line first in 3:31.16, securing the gold medal and providing a major boost ahead of the 2026 Asian Games in Japan later this year.

The success did not stop there. Shortly after the women’s triumph, Vietnam celebrated another historic achievement in the men’s 4x400m relay. The team of Le Ngoc Phuc, Tran Dinh Son, Vu Ngoc Khanh, and Ta Ngoc Tuong stormed to victory with a time of 3:02.60, claiming Vietnam’s first-ever Asian championship gold medal in the event.

The result was even more impressive as it shattered the national record, improving upon the previous mark of 3:03.85. The breakthrough performance highlighted the growing strength and depth of Vietnam’s sprint relay program on the continental stage.

Held in Gumi, South Korea, from June 20 to 21, the 2026 Asian Athletics Relay Championships brought together many of Asia’s top track and field nations. For Vietnam, the two gold medals represent a significant confidence boost as the team continues preparations for the Asian Games, where the nation hopes to challenge for podium finishes across multiple events.
