Hanoi, 27 June 2026 – On the afternoon of June 27, the coaching staff of the Vietnam national team officially decided to part ways with young Viet Kieu defender Ngo Dang Khoa, allowing him to return to his club for injury treatment. The update has attracted significant attention from football fans, as Khoa was one of the most highly anticipated players in this training camp.
Ngo Dang Khoa reportedly sustained the injury before joining the national team while playing for his club. Upon arriving at the training camp, he underwent a thorough medical examination, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) results confirmed a grade 2 meniscus tear.
Due to the severity of the injury, Dang Khoa was unable to take part in any tactical or technical training sessions with the rest of the squad during the recent camp. Instead, he focused on recovery exercises and underwent intensive physical therapy under the close supervision of the team’s medical staff.
According to medical assessments, if the young defender were to resume high-intensity training or competitive matches before making a full recovery, he would face a significant risk of worsening the injury into a grade 3 tear, which would likely require surgery and result in a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
With the player’s long-term health and career in mind, head coach Kim Sang Sik held a direct discussion with Ngo Dang Khoa on the afternoon of June 27. Following a mutual agreement between the player, the coaching staff, and the medical team, the South Korean coach decided to release the defender from the national team so he could return to his club.
Returning to his club at this stage is considered the safest and most appropriate course of action, allowing Ngo Dang Khoa to receive continuous specialist treatment and rehabilitation with the aim of making a full recovery and returning to competitive football as soon as possible.
