Ho Chi Minh City , 17 July 2026 – The opening round of Group B at the 2026 Vietnam U17 national championship produced plenty of excitement in Gia Lai on the afternoon of July 17, with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City FC, Dong Nai, and Hue all celebrating victories. Hanoi stole the spotlight with a commanding 8-0 win, while the other three sides secured valuable three points in much tighter contests.
The day’s early action at Ham Rong Field 4 saw Ho Chi Minh City FC U17 defeat Song Lam Nghe An U17 2-0. The breakthrough came in the 23rd minute after Dau Quang Hung was brought down inside the penalty area, prompting the referee to award a spot kick. Nguyen Le Quang Khai calmly converted from the penalty spot to give the southern side the lead.
Ho Chi Minh City FC doubled their advantage in the 34th minute when Dau Quang Hung reacted quickest to a scramble inside the box, squeezing home from a tight angle. Song Lam Nghe An responded strongly after the break and created several clear-cut chances, but the Ho Chi Minh City FC defense stood firm, making a series of crucial goal-line clearances to preserve a clean sheet and seal a deserved victory.
Meanwhile, Hanoi U17 produced the most dominant performance of the day, thrashing Lam Dong U17 8-0 at Ham Rong Field 5. Tran Hai Duong opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before Tran Hoang Viet doubled the lead just four minutes later.
Chu Ngoc Nguyen Luc scored twice, while Vo Duc Dat, Tran Manh Quan, Nguyen Khac Minh Duc, and Bui Phi Hung also found the net to complete an emphatic win for the capital club.
Lam Dong’s task became even more difficult after Duong Nguyen Vien Phat was sent off in the 51st minute. Hanoi were also reduced to 10 men late in the match when Nguyen Huu Truong received a red card in the 79th minute, but it had little impact on the outcome.

The afternoon fixtures also produced a pair of narrow victories. At Ham Rong Field 4, Dong Nai U17 pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the opening round by defeating tournament contenders PVF-CAND U17 1-0. With the match seemingly headed for a draw, Nguyen Hoang Cong Anh struck in the 90th minute to hand Dong Nai a dramatic winning start.
Over at Ham Rong Field 5, Hue U17 also opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Dong Thap U17. Nguyen Viet Tai netted the decisive goal in the 83rd minute, earning the central Vietnam side a valuable three points.

Following the opening round of Group B, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City FC, Dong Nai, and Hue all sit on three points, setting up an intriguing battle for qualification to the knockout stage of the 2026 Vietnam U17 National Championship Finals.
