Hanoi, 28 July 2026 – Vietnam U23 are set to begin preparations for one of their most important tournaments of 2026, as the team officially regroups on July 29 for a short training camp aimed at assessing the squad and laying the groundwork for the upcoming Asian Games (ASIAD) 2026.
The training camp will feature a 29-player squad, including many familiar faces who represented Vietnam at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup Finals and the recent CFA Team China International Friendly Tournament. Notable call-ups include goalkeeper Cao Van Binh, defender Vo Anh Quan, midfielders Nguyen Xuan Bac, Nguyen Thai Quoc Cuong, Nguyen Phi Hoang, Le Van Thuan, Le Viktor, and Nguyen Cong Phuong, as well as forwards Nguyen Thanh Nhan and Nguyen Quoc Viet.
However, the squad will not be at full strength from the outset. Several players remain with the senior national team for the ongoing ASEAN Cup 2026, while others are occupied with their clubs as they prepare for the new V.League 1 season. As a result, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will coordinate with clubs to adjust the reporting schedule of certain players, ensuring a balance between national team commitments and club responsibilities.
With head coach Kim Sang-sik currently leading the senior national team at the ASEAN Cup, assistant coach Dinh Hong Vinh has once again been entrusted with overseeing the technical and tactical work of the U23 squad during this training camp.
According to the schedule, Vietnam U23 will train at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center from July 29 to August 6, using the camp to evaluate player performances, refine the squad, and continue preparations for the Asian Games.
The 2026 Asian Games will be held in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. In the men’s football tournament, 15 teams have been divided into four groups—three groups of four teams and one group of three. Following the official draw, Vietnam U23 were placed in Group C, where they will face Uzbekistan, the Philippines, and Kuwait as they bid to advance to the knockout stage.
