Son La, 9 August 2026 – The 2026 Vietnam Women’s U16 National Championship officially concluded on August 9 at Chieng Sinh Stadium in Son La, with hosts Son La facing Ho Chi Minh City in the final match of the tournament. Despite suffering a 2-1 defeat, Son La held on to third place overall with seven points.
Heading into the final round, Son La had collected seven points from five matches, six more than Ho Chi Minh City. The significant gap meant the hosts were already guaranteed to finish above their opponents regardless of the result of their head-to-head encounter.
Ho Chi Minh City nevertheless entered the match determined to end their campaign on a positive note. The visitors made the brighter start and were rewarded in the 21st minute when Nguyen Phuong Thao converted an opportunity to give her side a 1-0 lead.
The visitors maintained their momentum after the break and quickly doubled their advantage. In the 48th minute, Vuong Thi Lan Anh found the net to put Ho Chi Minh City firmly in control at 2-0.
Son La’s task became even more difficult ten minutes later when Lu Ba Han was shown a red card, leaving the hosts to play the remainder of the match with ten players.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, Son La refused to surrender. Their persistence paid off in the 75th minute when To Thi Thuy pulled one back, reducing the deficit to 2-1 and giving the home side renewed hope of rescuing a point.
Son La pushed forward in search of an equalizer during the closing stages, but Ho Chi Minh City’s defense stood firm to preserve their advantage and secure a 2-1 victory.
The result saw Ho Chi Minh City conclude the competition with four points, while Son La remained on seven and secured third place overall.
Phong Phu Ha Nam were crowned the 2026 Vietnam Women’s U16 National champions after finishing top of the standings with 13 points. Hanoi claimed the runners-up spot with 10 points, followed by Son La in third and Ho Chi Minh City in fourth.
Following the final match, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the local organizing committee held the tournament’s closing and awards ceremony. Prizes were presented to the highest-placed teams, while outstanding individual performers were also recognized for their contributions throughout the competition.
The awards provided a fitting conclusion to the tournament, acknowledging not only the results on the pitch but also the effort, development, and competitive spirit demonstrated by Vietnam’s young female footballers.
