Hanoi, 8 June, 2025 – Vietnam’s national women’s volleyball team continued their impressive run at the AVC Nations Cup 2025 with a commanding 3-0 victory over Chinese Taipei in their second group stage match, held late on June 8 at Dong Anh Gymnasium in Hanoi.
The packed home crowd once again filled the stands to support head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his players, who showed great composure and control throughout the match. Taking a cautious approach, Coach Kiet opted for an experienced lineup instead of introducing new faces. The starting squad included setter Doan Thi Lam Oanh, libero Nguyen Khanh Dang, and key attackers Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, Nguyen Thi Uyen, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Le Thanh Thuy, and Nguyen Thi Trinh.
With solid coordination and minimal errors, Vietnam needed just three sets to wrap up the match with scores of 25-17, 25-16, and 25-17. Coach Kiet’s tactical plan emphasized strict adherence to game strategy, with a focus on defensive support and error-free execution. Middle blocker Tran Thi Bich Thuy was subbed in at times to deliver quick attacks through the center, while most of the scoring came from dominant spikes by Thanh Thuy and Bich Tuyen.

Following the win, Vietnam remained at the top of their group with two victories from two matches, putting them in a strong position heading into the next stage of the tournament.
Speaking after the match, Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet acknowledged both the team’s performance and areas for improvement. “We had high expectations for this match. I’d like to congratulate the players on their second win. Chinese Taipei plays with speed and doesn’t easily allow large score gaps. Still, our players handled the game well.”
He also pointed out positives and shortcomings: “Our first-ball reception was effective today. However, we still need to improve backcourt defense, especially with players like Bich Tuyen and Nguyen Thi Uyen. These athletes have potential for future tournaments, and we will address their weaknesses during the next training phase.”
Coach Kiet also revealed some injury concerns and plans for squad rotation. “Some players in the middle blocker position—though considered core members—only met about 60% of our tactical expectations. For instance, Nguyen Thi Trinh picked up a minor injury. In upcoming matches, we aim to boost confidence among all players and provide more opportunities for those who haven’t played yet. Our lineup will vary based on the opponent to diversify our tactical approach. Today, the combination between Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and Le Thanh Thuy worked well, giving us varied attacking options.”
Vietnam will now enjoy a two-day break before facing India in their next group stage match on June 11.
