Taiwan, 8 June, 2025 – Vietnam’s athletics team secured an impressive silver medal on the final day of the 2025 Taiwan International Athletics Meet, with a standout performance by the men’s 4x400m relay team that also shattered the national record.
On June 8 (local time), the final events of the tournament took place, bringing exciting conclusions to several competitions. Vietnam’s men’s 4x400m relay squad, consisting of Nguyen Xuan Quang, Vu Ngoc Khanh, Tran Nhat Hoang, and Tran Dinh Son, competed in the final and clocked a remarkable time of 3:06.20. Although they finished second behind India—who claimed gold with a time of 3:05.58—the Vietnamese quartet’s performance marked a historic moment.
The 3:06.20 result officially broke the long-standing Vietnamese national record of 3:07.40, which was set back in 2017 during the SEA Games in Malaysia. Coincidentally, that same SEA Games performance also earned Vietnam a silver medal in the event. After eight years, the record has finally been surpassed through the effort and coordination of the current generation of Vietnamese sprinters.

“We prepared a tactical plan ensuring that each athlete ran their segment according to the timing needed, aiming for the highest possible performance. Breaking the national record is a well-earned recognition of each athlete’s hard work at this meet in Taiwan,” said coach Dang Van Thanh from the Vietnamese athletics delegation.
Also on June 8, other Vietnamese athletes competed in various finals: Doan Thu Hang finished fourth in the women’s 5,000m with a time of 17:37.59; Bui Thi Loan ranked ninth in the women’s long jump with a result of 5.86 meters; and Nguyen Tien Trong placed sixth in the men’s long jump, recording a distance of 7.31 meters.
Overall, Vietnam concluded the Taiwan International Athletics Meet with a total of three silver medals and one bronze, though the team did not capture any gold medals. The other silver medals came from the men’s 400m sprint, women’s 4x100m relay, and women’s 4x400m relay, while the sole bronze medal added to the tally came from a separate event.
According to the coaching staff, the Vietnamese athletics team will return home on June 9 to continue their training and preparations for upcoming international competitions.
