U19 women’s team crush Timor Leste, close in on Semifinals AFF championship

Ho Chi Minh, 11 June, 2025 – Vietnam’s U19 women’s national team continued their dominant run at the 2025 AFF U19 Women’s Championship with a commanding 6-0 win over Timor Leste in their second group stage match, reaffirming their status as one of the top contenders for the title.

Fresh off a 2-0 opening victory against Myanmar, coach Masahiko Okiyama opted to rotate his squad, fielding a starting lineup filled with reserves to give more players valuable game time. Despite the changes, Vietnam showed complete control from the outset.

The Vietnamese side raced to a 3-0 lead by halftime, with Thuy Nga netting a brace and Le Thi Trang adding another. Their superior technique, movement, and tactical organization overwhelmed a Timor Leste team that struggled to keep pace throughout the match.

In the second half, Coach Okiyama made additional substitutions, but the momentum remained firmly with Vietnam. They continued to dominate possession and added three more goals to seal an emphatic 6-0 victory.

With two wins in two matches and a perfect six points, Vietnam U19 are all but certain to reach the semifinals. Their final group match will take place at 3:00 PM on June 13 against Laos, where a positive result will secure top spot in Group A.

At this year’s tournament, Vietnam and Thailand are seen as the two strongest title contenders, especially in the absence of the Philippines, who did not send a team to the competition.

With depth, discipline, and firepower on display, Vietnam U19 Women have firmly established themselves as one of the favorites to lift the trophy on home soil.
