Hanoi, 25 August, 2025 – Head coach Kim Sang Sik has officially announced the squad for Vietnam’s September 2025 training camp, as the Golden Stars prepare for two friendly matches against Nam Dinh and Hanoi Police FC. The camp is scheduled to begin on August 29 in Hanoi, serving as a crucial step in Vietnam’s preparations for the final round of 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers set to take place in October.
This will be the third national team gathering of 2025, with the main purpose of assessing the squad depth, testing new options, and ensuring optimal readiness ahead of competitive fixtures. While the list features many familiar core players, several new and returning names have also been called up.
Among the notable newcomers are goalkeeper Quan Van Chuan (Hanoi FC), defender Tran Hoang Phuc (Ho Chi Minh City Police FC), young center-back Dinh Quang Kiet (Hoang Anh Gia Lai), midfielder Ly Cong Hoang Anh (Nam Dinh), and forward Pham Gia Hung (Ninh Binh FC). These fresh faces will have the opportunity to prove themselves on the big stage and potentially earn a long-term role in the national setup.

The squad also welcomes back two important players who recently recovered from injuries: midfielder Doan Ngoc Tan (Thanh Hoa) and defender Phan Tuan Tai (The Cong Viettel). Their return is expected to strengthen both defensive stability and midfield creativity for the team.
Due to head coach Kim Sang Sik’s simultaneous duty of leading Vietnam’s U23 squad at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers, training sessions for the senior national team will be overseen by acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh. Vinh, an experienced tactician, is expected to maintain the same tactical framework while implementing adjustments tailored to the available squad.
As part of the camp, Vietnam will play two closed-door friendlies designed to simulate competitive conditions. On September 4, the Golden Stars will test themselves against Hanoi Police FC, one of the V.League’s strongest sides with a roster featuring several national team players and high-quality foreign imports. Three days later, on September 7, they will face Nam Dinh FC, the reigning V.League champions. Both matches are seen as ideal tests to evaluate tactical flexibility, squad chemistry, and individual performance.
With Asian Cup qualification on the horizon, this training camp represents an important checkpoint in Vietnam’s long-term strategy. Balancing experience with emerging talent, the coaching staff aims to build a competitive squad capable of making a strong impact at continental level. Fans will be eager to see which new players can seize their chance and whether the Golden Stars can carry their momentum into the decisive matches in October.
