Coach Kim Sang Sik to attend the 2027 Asian Cup draw

Hanoi, 18. March 2026 – Vietnam national team has officially secured qualification for the 2027 Asian Cup finals, as confirmed by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), following Malaysia’s 3–0 forfeited defeat. Head coach Kim Sang Sik is expected to attend the tournament draw scheduled for April 11.

According to the AFC, the official draw for the 2027 Asian Cup will take place at the Diriyah Salwa Palace in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. As hosts, Saudi Arabia have been pre-assigned to Group A (position A1) and will feature in the opening match on January 7, 2027, at the King Fahd Sports City Stadium against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.

Vietnam currently top Group F with 15 points, mathematically securing their place in the finals even before the last qualifying match on March 31 against Malaysia. The AFC has also confirmed Vietnam as the 21st of 24 teams to qualify, leaving only three remaining spots to be decided.

These final berths will be contested between Tajikistan and the Philippines (Group A), Lebanon and Yemen (Group B), and Thailand and Turkmenistan (Group D), with the outcomes to be determined after the final round of qualifiers on March 31.

The 2027 Asian Cup will run from January 7 to February 5, 2027, across three host cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar. The King Fahd Sports City Stadium in Riyadh, with a capacity of 72,000, will host the opening match and several key fixtures, including knockout games and the final.

Other venues in Riyadh, such as King Saud University Stadium, Kingdom Arena, Imam Mohammed Ibn Saud University Stadium, and Al Shabab Stadium, will host multiple group-stage and knockout matches. In Jeddah, King Abdullah Sports City and Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium will also stage important fixtures, including a semifinal.

Meanwhile, a newly built 45,000-seat stadium in Al Khobar will host matches across all rounds except the final, including group-stage games, quarterfinals, and one semifinal.
