Vietnam squad for Asian Cup 2023: First Call-up for Nguyen Filip

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has announced the preliminary squad selected by Coach Philippe Troussier for the Vietnam national team in preparation for the AFC Asian Cup 2023. In this list, Vietnamese-origin goalkeeper Nguyen Filip receives his first call-up, while Coach Troussier has also added new faces such as defenders Le Ngoc Bao, Do Thanh Thinh, and midfielder Nguyen Hai Long.

The core of the Vietnamese national team in this training camp primarily includes players who have been part of the squad during the FIFA Days earlier this year. This is understandable as they have spent a significant amount of time being trained by the French strategist and are familiar with his playing philosophy for the Vietnam national team. Notably, Nguyen Thanh Chung (Hanoi FC) returns to the squad.

The Vietnam national team will gather on December 31, 2023. Coach Park Hang Seo’s players will train at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center until January 5, 2024, before heading to Qatar for a training camp ahead of the AFC Asian Cup 2023. During the camp, the team will play a friendly match against the Kyrgyzstan national team on January 9, 2024.

Similar to previous national team camps, Coach Philippe Troussier has called up a number of U23 players in preparation for the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2024 scheduled for April 2024.
