The Vietnam U20 Women’s Team will compete in the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2024 in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) starting March 3. To prepare for this challenging tournament, the team led by Coach Akira Ijiri arrived early at the venue to acclimate and familiarize themselves with the conditions, especially the climate.
During the official competition period, the Vietnam U20 Women’s Team will stay at the International Tashkent Hotel, along with the three other teams in Group B: Japan, DPR Korea, and China. This is one of the top 5-star hotels in the capital city of Tashkent, located near the city center. It takes only 15 minutes to travel from the International Tashkent Hotel to the first competition venue of the Vietnam U20 Women’s Team, the Jar Stadium, by bus. The teams in Group A will stay at the Wyndham Hotel.
Yesterday morning (February 28), representatives from the Vietnam Football Federation visited and worked directly with the staff at the International Tashkent Hotel to ensure the most suitable and convenient conditions for the players’ living, dining, and training. The team is scheduled to move to the tournament hotel on the afternoon of March 1 – three days before the first match against the Japan U20 Women’s Team.
Currently, the team is urgently completing the final preparations to be ready for the tournament. The coaching staff plans to maintain training combined with regular meetings to discuss professional and tactical matters so that the players understand and grasp the tactics to face strong opponents in this round.
Additionally, the team’s physical condition and injury situation are monitored and updated daily by the team’s doctor. Accordingly, although there are players with minor injuries, the team has a full squad ready for the tournament. The official list of 23 registered players will be decided by Coach Akira Ijiri and his assistants in the coming days. The two players not on this list will continue to stay in Tashkent and train with their teammates to observe and gain experience.
With six previous participations, the best achievement of the Vietnam U20 Women’s Team in this tournament was reaching the Quarterfinals in 2004 in Suzhou, China, finishing second in the group after defeating Malaysia. In the subsequent quarter-final round, the Vietnam Team was eliminated after losing to the South Korea Team with a score of 1-5. That year was also the first time the South Korea Team won the championship at this tournament.
