Vietnamese aerobic athlete banned for 2 years due to doping

The World Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has confirmed that Vietnamese aerobic athlete Tran Ha Vi is banned from competition for two years after testing positive for prohibited substances as designated by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Specifically, doping samples collected by FIG on September 16, 2023, during the Asian Aerobic Championship in Mongolia revealed that Ha Vi tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide, chlorothiazide, amiloride, and sibutramine, substances banned under regulation 8.3.1 of the World Anti-Doping Agency.

FIG decided to ban Tran Ha Vi from competing for two years, effective from September 2023. Consequently, any results obtained by Ha Vi in competitions after September 16, 2023, will not be recognized.

Born in 2002, the athlete previously won a gold medal in individual events at the 32nd SEA Games held in Cambodia in May 2023. Before that, at the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam, Ha Vi made her debut at the regional competition, securing a silver medal.

With this ban, Ha Vi is expected to return to competition in time for the 33rd SEA Games scheduled for December 2025 in Thailand.
