Coach Troussier: Vietnam team will not give up

After the Vietnamese national team’s narrow 0-1 loss to Indonesia in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers on the away ground on March 21, Coach Philippe Troussier expressed his perspective on the match and his plans moving forward.

Indonesia secured the victory with a sole goal from Egy Maulana, capitalizing on a defensive error by Minh Trong. This result puts Indonesia ahead of Vietnam in the Group F standings with 4 points.

Post-match, Troussier commented, “Today, we aimed for a strong physical game, using long balls. I instructed the players to maintain control and avoid unnecessary collisions. In the first half, we managed the game well, effectively defending and transitioning while also creating scoring opportunities.

Unfortunately, the early goal in the second half changed the course of the match. The players adhered well to the tactics, especially in terms of off-ball movements. We will give our utmost in the return match. Clearly, we won’t give up or surrender. We have another match at home. We must win the next game if we want to advance.”

The return match between Vietnam and Indonesia is scheduled for 7 p.m. on March 26.
