VFF warns a second division team after signs of suspected match-fixing

In the first two matches of the 2024 National Second Division, Tay Nguyen Gia Lai Football Club (FC) experienced heavy defeats, losing 0-4 to Dak Lak FC and 0-5 to Kon Tum FC. These initial results have raised concerns, prompting an investigation by the organizing committee of the 2024 Second Division and the Anti-Corruption Department of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

Upon reviewing match reports and other documentation, the officials noted unusual patterns in several goals conceded by Tay Nguyen Gia Lai. Specifically, all four goals in the match against Dak Lak and two late goals at the 86th and 88th minutes against Kon Tum exhibited signs of anomaly. Furthermore, from the 75th minute in the game against Kon Tum, the defensive line of Tay Nguyen Gia Lai appeared to underperform.

In response to these observations, VFF and the tournament’s organizing committee have formally requested Tay Nguyen Gia Lai FC to provide a detailed report on the incidents to prevent any negative attitude or dishonest behavior in future matches.

Tay Nguyen Gia Lai FC has explained that the disappointing performances were due to inadequate team strength and lack of thorough preparation, which failed to fulfill their tactical intentions. The club has pledged to learn from these experiences and to strengthen their team structure, promising to deliver higher-quality performances moving forward.

This development underscores the commitment of VFF and the organizing committee to maintaining the integrity and fairness of the competition. It also highlights the challenges smaller clubs face in preparing for and competing in national leagues. Tay Nguyen Gia Lai FC’s response and future actions will be closely monitored by fans and officials alike, as the club works to rebuild trust and enhance its competitiveness in the league.
