AFC Surprisingly Honors Quang Hai Ahead of U23 Asian Cup 2024, Featuring Vietnam’s U23 Team

The U23 Asian Cup 2024 is set to take place in Qatar from April 15 to May 3, with Vietnam’s U23 in Group D alongside Uzbekistan, Kuwait, and Malaysia. According to the schedule, Vietnam’s U23 will play their opening match against Kuwait U23 on April 17. In the following two matches, the team will face Malaysia U23 on April 20 and Uzbekistan U23 on April 23.

Before the tournament’s kickoff, the Asian Football Confederation highlighted stars who have shone in past editions of this competition. Vietnamese football had one notable mention, Quang Hai.

AFC noted: “Not every goal earns a name, but Quang Hai’s free-kick against Uzbekistan in the final has been honored as ‘Snow Rainbow’. Although U23 Vietnam did not win the championship, that tournament showcased Quang Hai’s talent.”

“Quang Hai scored 5 goals during the historic journey that led U23 Vietnam to the finals. He later helped Coach Park Hang Seo’s squad defeat Malaysia to win the 2018 AFF Cup and played a key role in taking the Vietnam national team to the final eight of the Asian Cup 2019,” AFC listed Quang Hai’s achievements.

Though Quang Hai shone under Coach Park Hang Seo, he was less favored during Coach Troussier’s regime. In Vietnam’s last two matches against Indonesia, the midfielder born in 1997 did not play despite being in excellent form in the 2023/2024 V-League season with Hanoi Police FC.
