Binh Phuoc FC fires the assistant coach of the Vietnam U23 team

Recently, goalkeeper coach Ngo Viet Trung disclosed that his contract with Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc Football Club was terminated due to his commitments with the U23 Vietnam national team.

This decision came after Coach Trung spent significant time away with the national team, most recently in March 2024 during friendly matches in Tajikistan, which reportedly left the club’s Technical Director Yusuke Adachi and Head Coach Nguyen Anh Duc dissatisfied.

As U23 Vietnam convened to prepare for the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2024, the club gave Coach Trung an ultimatum: to remain with the club or end his contract if he chose to continue with the national team duties. Coach Trung opted for the latter, choosing to fulfill his responsibilities with U23 Vietnam.

Coach Trung expressed no hard feelings about the termination, stating, “The contract termination was amicable! I had already made a promise to Coach Hoang Anh Tuan, and honestly, the national team has always been my priority, so I’m not too upset about the termination.”

This scenario highlights the challenging balance between club commitments and national team duties that coaches and players often face. Coach Trung’s decision underscores his dedication to the national team and his willingness to prioritize it over his club role. This move could potentially open new opportunities for him within the national football structure and reflects his commitment to contributing to the development of Vietnam’s football talents at the international level.

The termination of Coach Trung’s contract with Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc FC raises questions about the support systems in place for club staff when national duties call. It also sparks a broader conversation about the need for clear policies and understanding from all parties involved to support the dual roles often played by football professionals.
