Nam Dinh solidified their position at the top of the V-League 2023-2024 after a dramatic 3-2 away win over Hanoi Police on May 4th. This victory extended their lead to 35 points after 16 rounds, ahead of Binh Duong by five points and seven points clear of Hanoi Police.
Despite playing away from home and conceding first, Nam Định demonstrated their championship credentials with a comeback win against one of their strongest rivals. The victory underscored their resilience, composure, and potential for clinching their first V-League title.
Nam Định started the match energetically, creating an early chance in the fifth minute when Rafaelson forced a save from Filip Nguyen. However, they fell behind a minute later to a precise free-kick from Nguyen Quang Hai. Despite this setback, they equalized through a fortunate goal in the 23rd minute when Filip Nguyen mishandled Nguyen Van Toan’s shot. In the 34th minute, Rafaelson gave them the lead after a VAR check confirmed his goal.
The match remained intense, with physical play escalating into a skirmish at the end of the first half. After the break, Hanoi Police pressed hard and leveled the score at 2-2 through Jeferson Elias. However, their missed opportunities allowed Nam Định to strike back. In the 80th minute, a foul on Van Vi in the box led to a penalty, which Hendrio converted to secure a 3-2 win.
