Round 18 of Night Wolf V.League 1 2023/2024: Hanoi Police FC continues to chase the championship

Round 18 of the Night Wolf V-League 1-2023/24 was marked by high tension and dramatic outcomes, with only two of the seven matches resulting in victories, while the rest ended in draws, reflecting the tight competition throughout the league.

In a surprising twist, the top half of the standings saw teams mostly settling for draws. Thanh Hoa FC, also known as Thep Xanh Nam Dinh, ended their winning streak with a draw against LPBank HAGL, failing to capitalize on their momentum. This unexpected outcome allowed other teams a chance to close the gap but most, including MerryLand Quy Nhon Binh Dinh and Becamex Binh Duong, failed to seize the opportunity.

MerryLand Quy Nhon Binh Dinh faced The Cong Viettel in a dramatic match where The Cong played with ten men from the 10th minute due to a red card shown to Jaha, following VAR consultation. Despite the numerical disadvantage, The Cong Viettel mounted a formidable challenge, eventually drawing the game. This was a missed opportunity for MerryLand Quy Nhon Binh Dinh, especially since a late defensive intervention from Marlon was necessary to prevent a potential loss.

The only team that managed to exploit the round’s stalemates was Hanoi police FC, who climbed to second place after a thumping 3-0 victory against Khanh Hoa in a match dubbed a “water battle” due to the challenging playing conditions. This victory was propelled by a hat-trick from their star player, Jefferson Elias, and marked an important shift in the table standings.

Elsewhere, Becamex Binh Duong faced a tough match away to Dong A Thanh Hoa, a place known for its challenging environment for visiting teams. Despite a valiant effort, they succumbed to a 2-3 defeat, slipping from the second spot and allowing Hanoi police FC to overtake them.

As the league progresses, the championship race continues to heat up with Thep Xanh Nam Dinh still leading, though the gap has slightly narrowed. Meanwhile, at the lower end of the table, the fight against relegation remains just as fierce, with all clubs struggling to secure vital points.

With only a few rounds left in the season, the Night Wolf V-League 1-2023/24 promises more exciting and unpredictable football, as teams battle it out both for the championship and to avoid the drop. The draw-heavy results of this round have set the stage for a thrilling finish to the season.
