Midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc will part ways with The Cong Viettel at the end of this year when his current contract expires.
Nguyen Hoang Duc’s contract with The Cong Viettel runs until January 2025. Recently, the 1998-born player and the club engaged in negotiations for a new contract. By the end of April, there were reports suggesting that Hoang Duc would stay with The Cong Viettel following successful talks between both parties.
Hoang Duc’s top priority was to stay with The Cong Viettel. The 26-year-old midfielder expressed his desire to extend his contract, and the club made an offer. However, according to Thanh Nien Newspaper, both sides failed to reach a final agreement to continue their association.
As a result, Hoang Duc will be leaving The Cong Viettel to seek a new opportunity once his current contract expires at the end of this year.
The destination for Hoang Duc after leaving The Cong Viettel has not yet been determined. The 1998-born midfielder is interested in playing abroad if he leaves The Cong Viettel and has attracted attention from clubs in South Korea and Thailand. Notably, strong Thai League teams like Bangkok United and BG Pathum are interested. However, Hoang Duc has yet to make a final decision.

The 26-year-old midfielder is committed to focusing fully on The Cong Viettel for the remainder of his contract. This weekend, Hoang Duc will join his teammates to face Hanoi Police FC in Round 21 of the V-League, scheduled for 7:15 PM on May 26.
Currently, The Cong Viettel sits in 8th place with 27 points after 20 matches. Coach Nguyen Duc Thang’s team is not yet secure, as they are only 5 points above the play-off spot held by SLNA. However, if they maintain their current form—having secured 7 points in their last 3 matches—The Cong Viettel could close the gap with the top teams.
Hoang Duc was promoted to The Cong Viettel’s first team in 2019 after progressing through the youth ranks. Over six years, the Hai Duong native has played 135 matches and scored 19 goals for his club. Hoang Duc has helped The Cong Viettel win the V-League in 2020, finish as runners-up in the National Cup in 2023, and secure a bronze medal in the V-League in 2023.
In his international career with various levels of the Vietnam national team, Hoang Duc has played 39 matches and scored 4 goals across all competitions. He has twice won the Vietnam Golden Ball award.
As Hoang Duc prepares for a new chapter in his career, his departure will undoubtedly leave a significant impact on The Cong Viettel, who will need to find a suitable replacement to fill the void left by their star midfielder.
