On May 27, newly appointed head coach Kim Sang Sik officially announced the squad for the Vietnam national team for the June 2024 FIFA Days. This squad will prepare for the remaining two matches in the second round of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian qualifiers.
The squad includes 27 players, carefully selected by Coach Kim Sang Sik and his assistants after observing V.League 1 matches. Key players familiar to fans remain in the lineup, such as Nguyen Filip, Dang Van Lam, Bui Tien Dung, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Do Duy Manh, Ho Tan Tai, Nguyen Hoang Duc, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Do Hung Dung, Nguyen Quang Hai, Pham Tuan Hai, Nguyen Tien Linh, and Nguyen Van Toan. Notably, midfielder To Van Vu returns to the national team after a long absence, with his last appearance being in the February 2022 preparations for the third round of World Cup 2022 qualifiers against China.
To ensure the team’s depth and build the next generation of players, Coach Kim Sang Sik has included several young talents who have recently shone, such as goalkeeper Quan Van Chuan, defenders Phan Tuan Tai, midfielders Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Van Truong, Nguyen Thai Son, and forwards Tran Ngoc Son, Nguyen Van Tung, and Bui Vi Hao.
However, some anticipated names are missing from the squad. Central defender Que Ngoc Hai has not fully recovered from a muscle tear suffered during the October 2023 FIFA Days friendlies. Defender Doan Van Hau is also striving to overcome a significant injury sustained in October 2023, which has kept him off the field since then. Additionally, young forward Nguyen Dinh Bac is still under medical guidance for recovery.
The Vietnam national team will begin their training camp on June 1. Coach Kim Sang Sik and his squad will have five days to prepare for their home match against the Philippines, scheduled for 7:00 PM on June 6. Following this, the team will travel to Iraq for their final match in the second round of the World Cup 2026 Asian qualifiers.
Tickets for the match between Vietnam and the Philippines went on sale via the VinID app starting May 25, with sales closing at midnight on May 30 or when tickets are sold out.
