Young striker Nguyen Van Tung will not be able to join the Vietnam national team training camp due to an injury sustained during the 22nd round of the V.League 2023/2024 last night (May 31). To ensure the team is fully prepared for the upcoming matches against the Philippines and Iraq in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, head coach Kim Sang Sik has decided to call up Dinh Thanh Binh to replace Van Tung.
Dinh Thanh Binh, a product of the HAGL JMG Academy, currently plays for LPBank HAGL. Thanh Binh is known for being part of the Vietnam U20 team that participated in the FIFA U20 World Cup 2017 and has made multiple appearances for the U23 and senior Vietnam national teams, with his most recent call-up during the FIFA Days in September 2023.
According to the plan, the national team will have their first training session this afternoon (June 1) at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. The National Team Department of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) is arranging a flight for Thanh Binh to join the team as soon as possible.
Nguyen Van Tung’s injury is a significant blow to the national team, as he has been in excellent form and was expected to play a crucial role in the upcoming qualifiers. However, the inclusion of Dinh Thanh Binh, with his experience and proven track record, is expected to fill the gap effectively.
Dinh Thanh Binh has consistently shown his abilities at both club and international levels. His participation in the FIFA U20 World Cup 2017 provided him with valuable experience on the global stage. Additionally, his performances for the U23 and senior national teams have demonstrated his capability to compete at the highest levels.
The Vietnam national team, under the guidance of coach Kim Sang Sik, is preparing rigorously for the two important matches in the World Cup qualifiers. The match against the Philippines will take place at My Dinh National Stadium, followed by an away match against Iraq. These matches are critical for Vietnam’s aspirations to advance further in the World Cup qualification campaign.
Coach Kim Sang Sik’s decision to call up Dinh Thanh Binh underscores his commitment to maintaining a robust squad capable of overcoming the challenges ahead. The team’s preparation and training are crucial, and the addition of Thanh Binh is seen as a strategic move to bolster the squad’s attacking options.
The national team’s first training session is expected to focus on integrating new players and refining tactical approaches. With the qualifiers fast approaching, every session will be vital in ensuring the team is well-prepared and cohesive.
The upcoming World Cup qualifiers present an exciting opportunity for the Vietnam national team to showcase their talent and determination on the international stage. With the support of fans and the strategic decisions by the coaching staff, the team aims to achieve positive results and move closer to their World Cup dreams.
