Vietnam’s expected lineup against Philippines tonight

As the Vietnam national team prepares to face the Philippines in their fifth match of the second round of the 2026 World Cup Asian qualifiers, midfielder Quang Hai is expected to make a return to the starting lineup.

Under the previous regime of coach Philippe Troussier, Quang Hai was not a regular starter. However, he has been in impressive form for Hanoi Police FC in the V-League 2023/2024 season, scoring seven goals, making him the second-best domestic scorer, just behind Tuan Hai. Due to his recent performances, it is likely that new head coach Kim Sang Sik will include him in the starting eleven against the Philippines.

Coach Kim Sang Sik prefers a 4-2-3-1 formation, which means he will likely use four defenders instead of the three-back system favored by previous coaches. Defenders such as Tuan Tai, Tien Dung, Duy Manh, and Van Thanh, who are all in good form, are expected to start.

In midfield, we can expect to see Hung Dung, Tuan Anh, Tuan Hai, Hoang Duc, and Quang Hai. Up front, Tien Linh is likely to be the leading striker, having scored seven goals in the V-League 2023/2024 season and serving as the team’s vice-captain.

In goal, Coach Kim Sang Sik has several quality options. However, based on club performances, Dang Van Lam is the most likely candidate to start, given his consistent form, over Nguyen Filip and Dinh Trieu.

The match between Vietnam and the Philippines will take place at 19:00 on June 6th. VOV Electronic Newspaper will provide live coverage of the match, and we invite all interested readers to follow along.

Vietnam will be aiming for a strong performance under their new coach Kim Sang Sik, with hopes of breaking their recent losing streak and regaining the trust and support of their fans. The team is determined to secure a victory and put on an impressive display at My Dinh Stadium.
