Vietnam’s journey in the AVC Challenge Cup 2024 came to a heartbreaking end as they narrowly lost to Pakistan in a thrilling quarterfinal match. Despite entering the game as underdogs, the Vietnamese team displayed exceptional skill and determination, pushing their formidable opponents to the limit.

Pakistan, coming off strong performances in the group stage where they defeated Kazakhstan and Thailand with identical 3-0 scores, were expected to dominate. However, the Vietnamese players were undeterred and delivered a stellar performance.

In the first set, Vietnam’s middle blockers, The Khai and Duy Tuyen, were outstanding, excelling both in attack and defense. Their effective plays helped Vietnam take an early lead and maintain it, winning the set 25:19.

As the match progressed to the second and third sets, Pakistan began to regain control. The games were closely contested, but Pakistan managed to edge out Vietnam in both sets, winning 25:27 and 23:25 respectively. Pakistan’s powerful attacks posed a significant challenge, but Vietnam’s resilience and determination were evident as they fought hard to keep pace.

Facing the necessity to win the fourth set to stay in the match, Vietnam rose to the occasion. Led by Ngoc Thuan, the team executed efficient attacks and bolstered their defense. Vietnam built a lead midway through the set and maintained it to win 25:21, forcing a decisive fifth set.

In the final set, Vietnam started strong and gained an early advantage. However, Pakistan’s experience and composure saw them rally to overtake Vietnam. Despite the Vietnamese team’s best efforts, they fell short, losing the set 12:15 and the match 2-3.

The quarterfinal loss means that Vietnam will not advance to the semifinals, ending their campaign in the AVC Challenge Cup 2024. The players can hold their heads high, having demonstrated exceptional skill and tenacity throughout the tournament.
