Vietnam football team coach Kim Sang Sik acknowledged the challenge of facing the strong Iraqi national team, who currently tops the group, but emphasized that Vietnam will play to earn points.
This statement was made during the press conference ahead of the match between the two national teams, scheduled to take place tomorrow, Tuesday, at Basra International Stadium at 9 PM.
“The Vietnamese national team is technically ready to face the game with a desire to win to keep the hope going,” Coach Kim Sang Sik said. “Even though the Iraqi national team is playing at home and among its fans, our ambition is to score points.”
Coach Kim also mentioned the team’s efforts to acclimate to the hot weather in Basra, having arrived several days prior. “The Iraqi national team is tactically strong and has a dangerous attacker in Ayman Hussein, so we have to be careful,” he added.
Vietnam national team player Bui Hoang Viet Anh expressed confidence in their preparation: “Our team is well prepared, and we will play to win because it enhances our chances to qualify for the next round. We are aware of the strength of the Iraqi national team, and this requires giving our best in the match.”
With the game being a crucial one for Vietnam’s hopes of advancing to the next stage of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers, the team is determined to put up a strong performance despite the challenging conditions and formidable opponent.
