Vietnam national team receives bad news from FIFA

In the latest FIFA rankings, the Vietnam national football team has dropped one spot to 116th in the world. Despite a 3-2 victory against the Philippines, the team’s 1-3 defeat to Iraq contributed to this decline. This marks Vietnam’s lowest ranking in eight years, since November 2017.

At 116th globally, Vietnam is ranked second in Southeast Asia and 20th in Asia. Leading the Asian pack is Thailand, now ranked 100th in the world. Thailand’s recent performance, which included a 3-1 win against Singapore and a 1-1 draw with China, has helped them widen the gap over Vietnam.

Indonesia holds the third spot in Southeast Asia, maintaining their 134th position after an impressive eight-spot climb in the previous ranking update. Malaysia follows closely behind at 135th, having moved up three places.

On the broader Asian stage, Japan remains the highest-ranked team at 17th globally, followed by Iran at 20th and South Korea at 22nd. Globally, there have been notable changes, with Brazil climbing to fourth place, overtaking England. Croatia has also moved up to ninth, pushing Italy down to tenth. The top three positions remain unchanged, with Argentina, France, and Belgium leading the rankings.

The next FIFA rankings will be released on July 18, 2024.
