On the evening of July 6, the crucial play-off match between Ha Tinh and PVF CAND took place, determining the final team to participate in the V-League 2024/2025 season.
Entering the match, Ha Tinh was considered the stronger team, but it was PVF CAND that started the game better. The First Division representatives dominated with several dangerous attacks. After numerous missed opportunities, PVF CAND took the lead in the 28th minute. From a right-wing corner, Thanh Nhan delivered a cross to the far post, allowing Hieu Minh to comfortably head the ball into Ha Tinh’s net.
Not only were they trailing, but Ha Tinh also faced a setback when forward Quang Nam sustained an injury and had to leave the pitch late in the first half. PVF CAND maintained their advantage until the end of the first half.
In the second half, Ha Tinh’s coach Nguyen Thanh Cong made strategic changes by pushing Trọng Hoang to the forward position. This bold move paid off as Ha Tinh equalized in the 49th minute. PVF CAND’s defense allowed Trọng Hoang to receive the ball freely in the box, and the former Vietnam international unleashed a powerful shot into the roof of the net.
Energized by the equalizer, Ha Tinh continued to press and took the lead in the 73rd minute. The referee awarded Ha Tinh a penalty after Viktor Le was fouled by PVF CAND’s Xuan Bac in the box. From the spot, Dinh Tien calmly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 2-1 for Ha Tinh.
Trailing, PVF CAND pushed forward, leaving gaps at the back. Ha Tinh capitalized on this in the 84th minute. Duc Phu’s mistake allowed Ha Tinh to launch a counter-attack, with Van Nhuan breaking through and finishing with a precise shot across the goal, beating goalkeeper Minh Long.
PVF CAND’s late efforts only resulted in a consolation goal by Minh Binh in the 90+4th minute. The match ended 3-2 in favor of Ha Tinh. With this victory, Ha Tinh secures their spot in the V-League 2024/2025, while PVF CAND will continue to compete in the first division.
The play-off match, often described as a “do-or-die” game, lived up to its billing with high stakes and intense action. Ha Tinh’s resilience and tactical adjustments were crucial in their comeback victory, ensuring their place in Vietnam’s top-tier football league for another season.
