According to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) regulations, national leagues in Asia must follow a home-and-away format, with a maximum of two clubs sharing the same stadium. Currently, three teams—Hanoi FC, Viettel FC, and Hanoi Police FC—are using Hang Day Stadium as their home ground, which violates AFC rules.
To comply with these regulations and ensure that the clubs and Vietnamese football maintain their rights to participate in AFC competitions for the 2024/2025 season and beyond, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) have required the involved clubs to develop and implement plans that meet AFC standards. The deadline set by VPF and VFF for the clubs to complete their registration for the new season is July 19, 2024.
According to the latest information obtained by vsn.com.vn on the morning of July 19, Viettel FC will not be able to register Hang Day Stadium as their home ground for the 2024/2025 season. This decision means that Hanoi FC and Hanoi Police FC will remain at Hang Day Stadium.
With Viettel FC needing to find a new home ground, the club will have to rent another stadium for their matches in the upcoming season. Currently, the only other stadium in Hanoi that meets the required conditions for registration is My Dinh Stadium. However, the rental costs for My Dinh Stadium are significantly higher than those for Hang Day Stadium.
It is estimated that clubs play around 15 home matches per season. With a rental cost of approximately 800 million VND per match, the total cost for renting the stadium for a season could amount to about 12 billion VND.
This development poses a logistical and financial challenge for Viettel FC as they prepare for the upcoming season. The club will need to quickly finalize arrangements for their new home ground to meet the registration deadline and ensure they can compete effectively in the V-League 2024/2025 season.
