Vietnam women’s volleyball team faced a heartbreaking setback as they were defeated by Red Sparks from South Korea, narrowly missing out on a spot in the semifinals of the Shanghai Future 2024 International Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
In the opening match of Group B, the Vietnam team secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over U.21 Canada. However, they stumbled in the second match, losing 1-3 to the Shanghai Young Team. This result left coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt’s squad needing a win in their final group match to advance to the semifinals.
In their crucial match against Red Sparks on the afternoon of July 24, the Vietnam team started strongly, showing determination and energy. They secured a 25-22 win in the first set, raising hopes of a semifinal berth.
However, the team’s performance faltered in the second set. Red Sparks capitalized on Vietnam’s mistakes and secured a commanding 25-18 victory in the set, leveling the match at 1-1. Despite the promising start, the Vietnam team couldn’t maintain their momentum, and Red Sparks continued to dominate, eventually winning the match.
The defeat ended Vietnam’s hopes of advancing to the semifinals, marking a disappointing end to their campaign in the tournament. The team’s initial strong performances and close matches highlighted their potential, but ultimately, they fell short of their goal.
Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his players will now focus on analyzing their performance and preparing for future competitions, with an eye on improving and building on their experiences from the Shanghai Future 2024 Tournament.
