This afternoon (July 29), Vietnamese swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang competed in the men’s 800m freestyle heats at the 2024 Paris Olympics. There were high expectations for Huy Hoang to perform well and secure a place in the final.
In the past, Huy Hoang’s best time in this event was 7 minutes 49.67 seconds. However, at the Olympic level, this time was still not competitive enough against the world’s top swimmers. During today’s heats, despite his best efforts, Huy Hoang could only manage a time of 8 minutes 08.39 seconds, finishing fifth in the first heat. He trailed the heat winner, Felix Auböck of Austria, by a significant margin of 19.90 seconds, with Auböck posting a time of 7 minutes 48.49 seconds. Garach Benito Carlos of Spain came second with a time of 7 minutes 50.07 seconds, while Henveaux Lucas of Belgium secured third place with 7 minutes 51.51 seconds.
Based on the overall results from the heats, Huy Hoang did not qualify for the final, as he finished 28th out of 31 competitors. This result was disappointing for the Vietnamese swimmer, who had hoped to improve his performance at this level.
Looking ahead, Huy Hoang still has another event to compete in at the 2024 Olympics, the 1500m freestyle, scheduled for August 3. This race will be another opportunity for him to showcase his skills and aim for a better finish. As one of Vietnam’s top swimmers, Huy Hoang’s journey at the Olympics continues to be closely followed by fans and supporters. The experience gained from competing on such a prestigious international stage is invaluable and will undoubtedly contribute to his development as an athlete.
