Doan Van Hau racing against time to return as AFF Cup 2024 approaches

Doan Van Hau, the prominent defender for Hanoi Police FC, is currently racing against time to recover and return to the field, with the AFF Cup 2024 fast approaching. The club is also considering the possibility of sending him abroad for further medical assessment if necessary.

In recent days, Van Hau has been diligently undergoing rehabilitation at the PVF Center, closely monitored by the medical team from Hanoi Police FC and specialists at the facility. According to the doctors, his recovery is progressing well and is on track as planned. It is expected that by the end of August, he may start light training with the ball, and by September, he could be back in full training.

However, regaining full fitness and match readiness after a prolonged absence from the field is not something that can happen overnight. It will require several months of training before Coach Mano Polking and the medical team can determine whether he is fully ready to return to competitive action.

Van Hau’s ability to play in the 2024 AFF Cup remains uncertain.

This cautious approach is reminiscent of the case of midfielder Phan Van Duc, who suffered a knee ligament tear in April 2023. After light training with the team in October, it wasn’t until five months later, on March 31, 2024, that Coach Kiatisak cautiously introduced Van Duc into a match, bringing him on in the 94th minute, where he unexpectedly scored against Thanh Hoa FC. Despite this success, Van Duc had to follow a carefully planned return to play, with his playing time gradually increasing.

Considering Van Duc’s experience, even if Van Hau resumes training in September, it is uncertain when he will be ready to return to V-League action. His previous injury history adds to the complexity, requiring careful management to ensure that he fully recovers and reaches his optimal playing condition.

This situation poses a significant challenge for Hanoi Police FC, as they must handle Van Hau’s rehabilitation with utmost caution to ensure that their talented left-back fully recovers and regains his peak performance. It is almost certain that Van Hau will miss the upcoming FIFA Days in September and October. Additionally, his participation in the training camp in South Korea at the end of November remains uncertain.

The leadership at Hanoi Police FC is reportedly considering sending Van Hau for a comprehensive medical check-up abroad or at a reputable hospital in Hanoi, to accurately assess his recovery and clarify his return timeline.

Doan Van Hau is a player deeply missed by fans, especially during the national team’s recent unsuccessful campaigns, particularly in the losses against Indonesia. He is determined to return to the field, although his participation in the AFF Cup 2024 remains uncertain. However, the most crucial aspect is for the 1999-born defender to regain his full fitness and once again display the powerful style of play that has characterized his career for so long.
