FIFA imposes transfer ban on Khanh Hoa FC due to unresolved contract dispute

In a recent development, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has imposed a ban on Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa FC, prohibiting them from registering new players. The decision was communicated to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Khanh Hoa FC, following a dispute involving the club and former foreign player Mamadou Guirassy.

The issue arose after Mamadou Guirassy filed a complaint with FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, alleging that Khanh Hoa FC had unilaterally terminated his contract and failed to pay the owed amount of $260,000 USD (approximately 650 million VND). This led to FIFA’s decision to impose a transfer ban on the club until the matter is resolved.

Speaking to Vietnam Sports News, Khanh Hoa FC’s head coach Tran Trong Binh confirmed the receipt of the transfer ban notice. He stated, “The club has been informed of the transfer ban. Currently, the management is working on resolving this issue.”

Regarding the club’s plans for strengthening the squad for the upcoming season, Coach Binh added, “If the transfer ban remains in place, we will have no choice but to rely on our existing players. We are still waiting for meetings between provincial authorities and relevant parties to determine the best course of action for the new season.”

Khanh Hoa FC has faced financial difficulties since the 2023/2024 season, which significantly affected the team’s performance. These challenges ultimately led to their relegation to the V.League 2 for the 2024/2025 season.

The transfer ban comes as a significant setback for Khanh Hoa FC, as they were already grappling with the consequences of their financial struggles. The inability to sign new players further complicates their preparations for the upcoming season, as they will need to rely on their current squad to compete in the V.League 2.

The club’s management is now under pressure to resolve the dispute with Mamadou Guirassy swiftly to lift the transfer ban and strengthen the team ahead of the new season. The outcome of this situation will be crucial for Khanh Hoa FC as they aim to bounce back from their recent relegation and regain their place in the top tier of Vietnamese football.

The case also highlights the broader issues facing some Vietnamese football clubs regarding contract management and financial stability. As Khanh Hoa FC navigates these challenges, their ability to address the underlying problems and comply with FIFA’s regulations will be key to their future success. Fans and observers alike will be closely watching how the club manages this difficult period and whether they can turn their fortunes around in the upcoming season.
