Vietnam and Thailand set for exciting friendly match at My Dinh stadium

After successful negotiations, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) have agreed to organize a highly anticipated friendly match between the Vietnam national team and the Thailand national team. This exciting encounter is scheduled to take place at My Dinh Stadium on September 10 at 19:30.

Matches between Thailand and Vietnam have always captured the attention of football fans in both countries. The upcoming friendly is expected to draw significant interest, as it falls within the September FIFA Days and serves as part of both teams’ preparations for the ASEAN Cup 2024, which will be held later this year, and the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers, set to begin in early 2025.

Historically, the Vietnam national team has struggled to secure victories against Thailand, even during the peak era under Coach Park Hang-seo. The most recent victory for Vietnam over Thailand was in the 2019 King’s Cup, where Vietnam edged out the hosts with a narrow 1-0 win, thanks to a late goal by Anh Duc. Despite Thailand dominating much of the match, Vietnam managed to hold on for the win. Since then, the two teams have faced each other several times in official competitions, with Vietnam either drawing or losing.

Before facing Thailand, the Vietnam national team will play another significant friendly match against Russia on September 5 at 19:30. The Russian team, ranked 33rd in the world by FIFA, poses a formidable challenge for Vietnam, who are currently ranked 115th. The match against Russia will provide a valuable test for Coach Kim Sang-sik and his squad as they prepare for upcoming international competitions. Following the match against Vietnam, Russia will travel to Thailand to face the Thai national team on September 7.

In addition to the senior team’s matches, Russia’s U20 team has also accepted an invitation to play two friendly matches against Vietnam’s U20 team. These matches are scheduled for September 6 and 8 and are part of the U20 Vietnam team’s preparations for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers.

The series of friendly matches involving Vietnam, Thailand, and Russia in September promises to be an exciting period for football fans, as they will witness high-level competition and see how the teams are shaping up ahead of crucial tournaments. For Vietnam, these games offer a chance to test their mettle against strong opponents and fine-tune their strategies as they aim to make a mark in the ASEAN Cup and beyond.
