This afternoon (August 12), the final match of the 2024 National U21 Championship took place between U21 Hoang Anh Gia Lai and U21 PVF. As anticipated by experts, both teams approached the championship-deciding match with great caution, making it difficult for either side to gain an advantage.
Throughout the 90 minutes of regular time, neither team managed to score, leading to a tense penalty shootout to determine the winner. U21 Hoang Anh Gia Lai, having already secured victories via penalties twice in this tournament—against U21 Hanoi in the quarterfinals and U21 Quang Nam in the semifinals—entered the shootout with more experience and composure.
During the penalty shootout, U21 Hoang Anh Gia Lai’s goalkeeper Trung Kien delivered an outstanding performance, saving one of U21 PVF’s shots and adding pressure that led to another PVF player hitting the post. Meanwhile, U21 Hoang Anh Gia Lai successfully converted four of their penalties, securing a 4-2 victory in the shootout and clinching the 2024 National U21 Championship.
This victory not only highlights the skill and resilience of the young Hoang Anh Gia Lai squad but also solidifies their status as one of the top youth teams in Vietnamese football. The win is a testament to their ability to perform under pressure, especially in penalty situations, and marks a significant achievement in their development.
