Rafaelson submits application for Vietnam citizenship

The Department of Justice of Nam Dinh province has officially received the application for Vietnamese citizenship from Rafaelson Bezerra Fernandes, a 27-year-old football player currently holding Brazilian nationality. This development marks a significant step in Rafaelson’s journey towards potentially representing the Vietnam national football team on the international stage.

Rafaelson, who currently resides at 48 Luu Trong Lu Street, Tran Quang Khai Ward, Nam Dinh City, has been a standout player in the V-League, where he has built a reputation as one of the most formidable strikers in the league. His decision to apply for Vietnamese citizenship is motivated by a desire to contribute to the national football team, reflecting his deep connection with the country where he has spent a significant part of his professional career.

The process of applying for Vietnamese citizenship involves multiple steps, including the verification of the applicant’s background and legal status. To ensure the legitimacy and integrity of Rafaelson’s application, the Department of Justice of Nam Dinh collaborated with the Nam Dinh Provincial Police and the Brazilian Embassy in Hanoi to thoroughly investigate and confirm his background.

According to the results of the verification, the Nam Dinh Provincial Police have not found any evidence of Rafaelson engaging in illegal activities or actions that would compromise Vietnam’s national security. This finding is a crucial component of the citizenship application process, as it ensures that the applicant poses no threat to the country’s safety and security.

Moreover, the Brazilian Embassy in Hanoi has confirmed that Brazilian law permits dual citizenship. This means that Rafaelson will be able to retain his Brazilian nationality even after acquiring Vietnamese citizenship. This aspect of his application is particularly significant, as it allows Rafaelson to maintain his ties to Brazil while fully integrating into Vietnamese society.

The Department of Justice has now forwarded Rafaelson’s application to the Nam Dinh Provincial People’s Committee, which will proceed with the next steps in the legal process. These steps will likely include additional verifications and the final approval by higher authorities before Rafaelson can be granted Vietnamese citizenship.

In his application, Rafaelson expressed his strong desire to represent Vietnam on the international football stage. He stated clearly: “My purpose in applying for Vietnamese citizenship is the desire to contribute to the Vietnamese national football team. If granted Vietnamese citizenship, I wish to be called by the name Nguyen Xuan Son.”

Rafaelson’s commitment to integrating into Vietnamese society is further underscored by his pledge to fully embrace his new nationality. He wrote in his application: “I solemnly pledge allegiance to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and commit to fulfilling all obligations of a Vietnamese citizen in accordance with the Constitution and laws of Vietnam.”

If successful in his application, Rafaelson, or Nguyen Xuan Son as he wishes to be known, would join a growing list of naturalized players who have made significant contributions to Vietnamese football. His addition to the national team could provide a much-needed boost in attacking options, given his proven track record in the V-League.

As Rafaelson awaits the outcome of his application, the football community in Vietnam will undoubtedly be watching closely. His potential inclusion in the national team could herald a new chapter in his career and add another layer of excitement to Vietnam’s football aspirations on the regional and global stages.
