Vietnam Paralympic team aims for medals at Paris 2024, spotlight on weightlifter Le Van Cong

The Paralympic Games Paris 2024 will officially open on August 28 at Place de la Concorde and conclude on September 8 at Stade de France. The Vietnam Paralympic team is setting its sights on winning medals, with high hopes pinned on the weightlifting events, particularly through the performance of seasoned weightlifter Le Van Cong.

Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training and Head of the Vietnamese delegation at Paralympic Paris 2024, shared that the Vietnamese Paralympic team has settled into the Athlete’s Village, securing their accommodations and facilities. Upon arrival, the team was warmly welcomed by the organizers, who facilitated their entry and swift transfer to the Paralympic Village, emphasizing the importance of smooth logistics for the world’s largest sports event for athletes with disabilities.

The Vietnamese team is housed in four rooms within building D5 of the village. Nguyen Hong Minh noted the strategic placement of their accommodations, conveniently close to the dining hall, which boasts spacious seating and a diverse selection of food options catering to various dietary preferences, including halal food. “The dining hall operates 24/7, and our athletes have been enjoying the meals since we arrived,” Minh added, highlighting the positive initial experience for the team.

Today, the athletes continue their rigorous training sessions in preparation for their upcoming competitions. The Vietnamese Paralympic delegation to Paris 2024 comprises 14 members, including four officials, three coaches, and seven athletes. The athletes participating are Le Van Cong, Nguyen Binh An, Dang Thi Linh Phuong, and Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan in weightlifting; Do Thanh Hai and Le Tien Dat in swimming; and Pham Nguyen Khanh Minh in athletics.

With the games set to open in just a few days, the team’s focus is on peak performance, aiming to bring home medals. Le Van Cong, in particular, is a beacon of hope for the team, given his past achievements and strong presence in weightlifting. Cong’s previous successes and experience make him a key figure to watch, embodying the spirit and determination of the Vietnamese athletes competing at the Games.
