Today, August 30th, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) officially handed over two new Video Assistant Referee (VAR) vehicles, funded by FIFA, to the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF). This move increases the total number of VAR-equipped vehicles for national professional football tournaments to four.
The handover ceremony was attended by VFF General Secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi, representatives from the VFF office, VPF, and Tekcast Corporation—the company responsible for providing the technology.
The implementation of VAR technology was first introduced in the V-League from the third round of Phase 2 in the 2023 season. This adoption represents a significant step forward in enhancing fairness and accuracy during matches. VAR’s introduction has garnered strong support from both football clubs and fans, who anticipate that this technology will help referees make more precise decisions, thereby ensuring more fairness in the game. Moreover, the use of VAR is expected to elevate the quality of domestic football tournaments, enhance their professionalism, and improve the overall image of the league.
The primary objective of the VFF and VPF is to implement VAR in all V-League matches as soon as possible. To achieve this, alongside expanding the fleet of VAR vehicles to cover more matches, the VFF and VPF are also coordinating efforts to conduct training courses on VAR technology. These sessions are designed to equip referees, assistant referees, and technicians with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively operate the VAR system.
The introduction of these additional VAR vehicles signifies a substantial investment in the future of Vietnamese football.
