FIFA provides additional support for Vietnam referees

Today, August 30th, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) officially handed over two new Video Assistant Referee (VAR) vehicles, funded by FIFA, to the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF). This move increases the total number of VAR-equipped vehicles for national professional football tournaments to four.

The handover ceremony was attended by VFF General Secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi, representatives from the VFF office, VPF, and Tekcast Corporation—the company responsible for providing the technology.

The implementation of VAR technology was first introduced in the V-League from the third round of Phase 2 in the 2023 season. This adoption represents a significant step forward in enhancing fairness and accuracy during matches. VAR’s introduction has garnered strong support from both football clubs and fans, who anticipate that this technology will help referees make more precise decisions, thereby ensuring more fairness in the game. Moreover, the use of VAR is expected to elevate the quality of domestic football tournaments, enhance their professionalism, and improve the overall image of the league.

The primary objective of the VFF and VPF is to implement VAR in all V-League matches as soon as possible. To achieve this, alongside expanding the fleet of VAR vehicles to cover more matches, the VFF and VPF are also coordinating efforts to conduct training courses on VAR technology. These sessions are designed to equip referees, assistant referees, and technicians with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively operate the VAR system.

The introduction of these additional VAR vehicles signifies a substantial investment in the future of Vietnamese football. With the growing emphasis on technology-driven accuracy and fairness, the VFF and VPF are committed to ensuring that VAR becomes a standard feature across all matches in the V-League. This development aligns with the broader goals of raising the standards of football in Vietnam to match international expectations and maintain competitive integrity within the league.

As the use of VAR becomes more widespread, fans can look forward to seeing fewer controversies arising from refereeing decisions. The move also represents Vietnam’s ongoing commitment to embracing modern football technologies, showcasing the country’s dedication to keeping pace with global football advancements.

The continuous investment in VAR technology and the training of match officials underscore the determination of the VFF and VPF to enhance the operational standards of football competitions in Vietnam. This progress is not only a response to the expectations of football fans but also a proactive measure to maintain the credibility and appeal of the V-League on both a national and international level.
