Binh Duong pulled off a thrilling 2-1 comeback win against Thanh Hoa, with Tien Linh delivering a standout performance in the second half. This victory marked a perfect debut for head coach Hoang Anh Tuan in the 2024/2025 V-League season.
Entering the match, Thanh Hoa was at a slight disadvantage as they could only field two foreign players, with central defender Gustavo suspended after receiving a red card in the recent Super Cup clash. Binh Duong, on the other hand, also deployed two foreign players, while midfielder Wellington started on the bench due to fitness concerns after his recent arrival in Vietnam.
Binh Duong began cautiously, allowing Thanh Hoa to dominate possession and create several attacking opportunities. In just the third minute, Thanh Hoa found the back of the net, but Rimario was ruled offside. The home side continued to press forward with dangerous plays, but their forwards struggled to convert chances into goals.
In the opening 20 minutes, Binh Duong managed only one quick counterattack down the flank by Ho Tan Tai, but forwards like Tien Linh and Vi Hao couldn’t capitalize. Meanwhile, Binh Duong’s foreign striker Abdurakhmanov was largely invisible during this period.
The breakthrough came for Thanh Hoa in the 28th minute when Luiz Antonio scored with a header from a corner kick, bouncing the ball into the net to give the home team a 1-0 lead. The goal boosted Thanh Hoa’s confidence, but a power outage at Thanh Hoa Stadium in the 34th minute delayed the game for 20 minutes. Despite the stoppage, no further goals were scored in the first half, although Binh Duong introduced Wellington in the 44th minute to bolster their attack.
Binh Duong pushed the tempo in the second half, and their efforts paid off quickly. In the 53rd minute, Tien Linh headed in a cross from a fast counterattack, leveling the score at 1-1, much to the surprise of the Thanh Hoa players and fans. Thanh Hoa responded with a fierce attack, but A Mit’s shot hit the crossbar.
Just five minutes later, Tien Linh struck again. From a corner, he rose high to head the ball into the net, giving Binh Duong a 2-1 lead and leaving Thanh Hoa stunned. The home team launched wave after wave of attacks, but Binh Duong’s solid defense, led by goalkeeper Minh Toan, held firm.
The match ended 2-1 in favor of Binh Duong, with Tien Linh’s heroics securing three crucial points. This victory not only completed a stunning comeback but also provided a perfect start for coach Hoang Anh Tuan in his debut with the club.
